Outline a brief history of how you got into the industry:
"I'm a former NZ National Champion Gymnast & competitor to the 1997 World Championships & 1998 Commonwealth Games. After retiring from my competitive sporting career I worked in Finance, but also gained my qualification in Personal Training in 2001 so I maintained my passion for Health & Fitness by Personal Training on the side for the past 8 years."
So why did you make the leap from the world of Finance to your own business?
"My main inspiration was the sense of really being able to help people achieve their Health & Fitness goals, being able to make a personal contribution to shaping someone physically & sometimes mentally is a rewarding experience that you just can't get in most other industries. Over the years many clients have become good friends, we catch up at social occasions & that's quite special."
Where does the passion lie within your business?
"Working with clients of all levels my passion is for achieving results for my clients with a holistic approach to Health & Exercise. Be it weight (fat) loss, functional exercise for day to day carry over or sports performance, I truly enjoy imparting knowledge, motivation and experience to every training session. By doing this I believe I offer a unique solution that is tailor made to meeting each and every client's Health & Fitness goals."
What is one of your greatest achievements?
“One of my greatest achievements has been the completion of C.H.E.K Exercise Coach Status which has really allowed me to deal with more complex clients and better understand the holistic approach to achieving long term results for clients. Using the C.H.E.K approach assists me to look at lifestyle factors that have potential to sabotage client goals. Together we can clearly identify them & address them to achieve maximum results”
Why did you decide to become a GRAVITY Trainer?
“Using the GTS (GRAVITY Training System) strikes a cord with me as it requires great body posture awareness & the bodyweight as the resistance, similar to my days as a Gymnast. My vision is to make GRAVITY Group Personal Training available to the many at an affordable price. GRAVITYProgramming gives me that platform, whilst still maintaining high standards from our trainers and providing quality Personal Training”.
What are your top five tips for someone looking to go out on their own?
1. Have a clear vision of what you are wanting to achieve in Personal Training.
2. Have a marketing plan / strategy to assist with achieving goals.
3. Try to work with a mentor in the industry for inspiration & guidance.
4. Continually develop & hone your skills by attending the various workshops/courses that are available and fit into your goals.
5. Have self-belief, drive ,determination & focus that you can and will succeed in this competitive but rewarding industry!
